Well this is kind of like a love letter to my Thermo. At just under 1k (for my model) I know its a massively expensive piece of kit but I feel its worth it for me! Being German of course I have been familiar with the company Vorwerk since my childhood (the company is over 130 years old) we even had our very own Vorwerk Sales person coming to our door to sell his goods. My Mum got a T31 the forerunner of my model since 2009 and told me so many times to save up to get one myself. And as much as I liked to bake with it when I went back home to visit I still couldn’t bring myself to spend over 1k on a kitchen machine. Then came the firstborn, secondborn, flat sale and house moves. Nearly 10 years later my Godmum surprised me with a voucher to get my very own Thermonix and I was over the moon! Why you ask? Well let me tell you 10 reasons why I love my Thermomix!
It’s not just a kitchen aid it’s the Ferrari of Kitchen Aid’s and of course mixed with precious German engineering with a touch of a button it can transform the way you cooking forever!
- The Thermomix lets you weigh, chop, blend, mix, grind, grate, cook, stir, steam, whisk, emulsifies, knead and so much more all within one compact machine. The colour touchscreen displays digital recipes with guided cooking – basically Idiot proof cooking!
- It has a Cook-Key which lets you access to over 20,000 recipes on the Thermomix Cookidoo digital cookbook. Guided cooking for me is a game changer honestly it makes cooking fun and enjoyable for me! I can not only use the UK and other english based Cookidoo websites I also love to check out recipes from Austria, Switzerland and of course Germany!
- The guided cooking brings me to my next love, its that easy that the kids well Molly-May mostly (who is 6) can actually cook and bake with very little help from me. The thermo lid has clasps that prevent the blade from starting if its not secure in place first so its very safe to use!
- Multitasking – You can blend and cook, or cook and stir, or cook and steam at the same time so thats means no more waiting around for the fish to cook in the oven whilst you making a sauce on the hob.
- Since I got my Thermo I haven’t bought a single Smoothie and I make fresh Smoothies most days.
- Ice cream in 15 minutes, done! The Thermomix also makes fluffy fruit foam in under 5 minutes and we bloody love it!
- I started enjoying alcohol again, to be precise my very own homemade alcohol! Not sure if thats a good thing but after years of not drinking (with exception of special nights like my hen do back in 2015) I found some drinks I actually love like a freshly made Pina Colada or my favourite Toffifee Cream Liqueur which I posted about recently.
- Meal planning with the Cookidoo App. Recently Thermomix brought out an app where you not only can plan your weekly meals but also add your own recipe collections as well as keeping a digital shopping list which is put together from all your meals planned for the week.
- The integrated scale also doubles up perfectly to weigh your parcels when you selling stuff online!
- Lastly, I am far from a good cook but I very rarely mess up when I am cooking with my Thermo so for me thats a huge plus and I actually enjoy cooking far more then I did 2 years ago. It is also such a mess free cooking experience (no messy kitchen after cooking meals) and the Thermomix actually has a self cleaning function too with a dash of washing up liquid and warm water it can clean off all of the dirt inside and you just need to rinse it out at the end!
Of course I have a couple of small negatives I found on my beloved Thermomix. I feel as though £30 for a yearly subscription to access the Cookidoo platform is a bit steep seeing as you have already spent so much in the first place but Thermomix does sweeten this a little bit by giving you 6/7 months for free when you purchase the machine. Another thing is that of course just like with other brands Vorwerk is evolving and a year after I got my T5 model they brought out (very secretive) a brand new T6 model which has a few new features who are improved and pretty cool needless I am happy with my T5 and wouldn’t swap it because it suits me to a T and I am very grateful to own one in the first place.
You cannot buy a Thermomix from a shop despite Thermomix opening up a brand new flagship store in Surrey as well as a Thermomix Cooking Studio in Southampton recently. Luckily Vorwerk does have some 0% finance plan available which is pretty handy considering parting with over 1k isn’t easily done for the normal earning folks (which lets be honest is most of us)! The newest version the T6 is priced just over 1k.
I have purchased my Thermomix through my lovely local Thermomix Advisor Elodie Nerva Murphy (you can find her via her Facebook Page) who is based in Bournemouth and alongside a demo cooking session she went above and beyond with advice and we are still in contact via a Whats App group with fellow Thermo owners to share our recipes with each other and she even offers some free cooking demonstrations which I am yet to manage to get to.
Remember back in the day housewives use to have Tupperware parties? Well nowadays you can have a Thermomix party where you invite your friends along and your advisor cooks up some magic in your kitchen for you all to experience and most importantly taste as well!
Would you spend that much on a kitchen aid if it would make your life easier? Would love to hear your thoughts on it!
