Indestructible School Shoes from Treads for Active Kids #BacktoSchool

Back to School Reviews

Learning from past years mistakes and with having a second child starting school after the summer I decided to be more prepared and get sorted before the summer holidays have even begun! Finn has had a major growth spur and jumped up nearly 2 shoe sizes and just like any other parents we have gone through quite a few brands over the last 5 years a few of them haven’t even seen the end of the school year because they have given up way beforehand, battered and one pair even got a hole in the sole after only a few short months which is frustrating and can become very expensive overtime! But fear not there is a new company called Treads Shoes who promised a whole 12 months indestructible guarantee and we can’t wait to put it to the test!

Finn is not a fan of sleek suit style shoes and lives in his trainers the minute he returns home from school so I was relived to see that Treads is offering a range of styles from slip on, lace up and touch fasten shoes for boy’s age 6-16. There are all made out of premium genuine black leather and range from size 3 up to an adult size 4. To find the perfect size shoes, Treads have a size calculator on their website. I have printed out the sizing chart to measure Finn’s feet and it resulted in him being a size Jnr 1.5/ Standard width, so we went for the Madrid Model which is a Touch Fasten School Shoe which is designed and built for active boys:

It has an additional scuff resistant toe which offers additional durability and the soft padded ankle gives all day comfort support. The touch fasten rip tape allows easy on-off access and that made to measure feel. It is made with permair leather that is soft enough to allow easy flexible movement offering unrivalled comfort and engineered to cope with the rigors of a school yard. The sole is tough and strong but also flexible and lightweight and the subtle stitching finishes off the look.

The Madrid School Shoe comes in sizes: Junior 13, 1,2,3,4 with a width of either standard (F/G) or wide (G/H). Thanks to their Dual Fit Technology if your child needs that extra bit of room you can just remove the orange EVA foot bed to convert to the wider fit option. All of the shoes have dual fit technology giving you the option of an extra ½ size for that perfect fit.

Treads are constructed using a “Strobel” technique where the upper is placed into a mould and the sole is then injected around it creating one unit without the need for any gluing. This not only creates a really strong bond but offers additional flexibility which is perfect for active kids.

Every Boys Tread School Shoe comes with a 12 Month Indestructible Guarantee!!

It is an expression of their confidence in the material and workmanship of their shoes. If the shoe you buy falls short of these high standards, you may return it to Treads within 12 months from the day of purchase (you can check out returns & exchanges for further information on their website).

Our first impressions on the Madrid Touch Fasten School Shoes:

The shoes arrived with 2 leaflets with an introduction manual as well as the 12 month guarantee leaflet with more details about it:

The shoes are very solid build but still feel flexible enough for Finn to run in playing catch before they even enter the classroom in the morning. I wanted school shoes who are easy enough for Finn to put on and off quickly in between PE and swimming lessons and the two velcro fastenings will help with just that. I really like the trainer look but they still look stylish enough for them to be school shoes. The solid front rubber layer protecting the shoe from scuffs is defiantly a big plus and the profile on the shoe soles are solid enough with plenty of grip for my crazy kid to run around in:

Stay tuned for an update end of the year to see how they have mastered the school year with Finn wearing them daily. As promised here is the follow up review: Treads School Shoes Put To The Test – 1 (School) Year on.

Treads Shoes come with a 12 month indestructible guarantee, a 30 day risk free trial as well as FREE UK delivery, and FREE returns and thanks to their 10£ off Back to School offer there are currently only 35£ making it a very reasonable priced school shoe which promises to last for the whole of the school year!

Treads Shoes have finally added a brand new range of Girls School Shoes to their sortiment you can read my initial review here: New Range of Girls School Shoes from Treads for Active Kids!

Disclaimer: I have been sent a pair of Treads School Shoes for reviewing purposes, but all thoughts and opinions are mine.
