Buying a House – 1 Year On!

Buying A House Family Life Home & DIY

Today it’s been 1 year since we got our keys and moved into our very first family house! Wow how time flies! It doesn’t seem that long ago that I was all stressed out about signing paperwork, surveys and finally getting that exchange date! And here we are a full 365 days later in our own house still trying to make it our home!

It’s a slow process and you know what? That’s ok with me! The months leading up to the move I was on Pinterest and eBay and IKEA and god knows where else trying to find all things pretty and thankfully budget wise I didn’t buy the whole catalogue and I am glad I didn’t! I know it’s hard but I think nice things take their time and that’s fine with me after all this is hopefully our forever home so we have plenty of time to put our stamp on it! The first thing we did when we moved in next to unpacking all those boxes was a new upright radiator for the front room so we could fit our (back then not even purchased) two 3 seater couches onto the space where the old long radiator was. We also had the front room as well as Finns bedroom professionally painted in white to get rid of those light brown colours who can be found all over the house! It made both rooms look fresh and nice and a little bit more ‘ours’! We had a dining room in the conservatory for a full 4 weeks before we decided to get a smaller round table for the bay window and give the kids their very own playroom instead and we have not regretted this decision one bit! We have a toy free living room which is lovely!

Not a lot has changed decorating wise anywhere else but I thought I show you some pictures of when we first moved in and now. It’s all a work in progress although Molly-May’s room is very close to the most finished room in the house! I will post about her new room and lots of pictures very soon (and link it up once its live!) Over the last year we had a lot of talks from loft conversion to toilet extensions downstairs, transforming the garage into a party room / guest house and getting a brand new bathroom (to our taste) with a bathtub again! I still want to get a new floor in the living room and some build in cupboards and shelf’s in the alcoves! We still have no wardrobe in our bedroom the most untouched room of the house and we’re not yet but very nearly finished with Finns bedroom which has everything inside it made from scratch by Mr. C. From a high sleeper to a slide and a foldable desk all lovingly handmade!

I am hoping this day next year I can bring you another post with some more changes and finished rooms but until then I am off to source the perfect new outdoor table and chairs as well as sort the garage out once again not sure how but with all the DIY projects for Finns room it ended up a right state so I better get on with decluttering in there once again! We also want to do a bit of work in the garden and take out some plants and plant something nice into the pots.

Have you bought a house recently or moved the last few years? I would love to hear how long it took you to make your house a home?
