…the baby wearing bug that is!
Because this week is International Baby Wearing Week i thought i will dedicate this week to a new Page (which is in progress for my blog) and tell you all about my Journey into baby wearing:
When Finn was a Baby we use to have a Snuggly Carrier (aka a Crotch Dangler) and i got given a Tricotti Sling (which i never used because i didn’t have a clue what to do with 2 pieces of long snood scarf looking like material) and a Baby Hawk Mai Tai which i forgotten about and only pulled out of the drawer when Finn was 10month + and we used it occasionally but looking back on the pictures it seems like i didn’t take a lot of shots with me wearing him which is a shame i only found one with him and his Daddy on the beach at the IOW:
When he got too heavy with 16 month we purchased a Little Life Back Pack Carrier for trips to the woods etc.
In my 2. Pregnancy i got given a pretty woven wrap from my German friend Claudia.
It was all nice and soft and broken in (no clue what i am talking about?
believe me i am new to the baby wearing lingo too but i will explain that in another post)
but unfortunately it was just a tag on the short side (its a size 5) so i didn’t use it and only tried it out a few times to get a feel for wrapping.
3 weeks old
Well then it somehow went to a 2. Close Caboo (it was handy to have one at home and one in the car i though) and after a little tip off from the above ladies i went onto google and discovered not far from me at all was a local Sling Meet.
What is a Sling Meet i hear you say?
A Sling Meet is a meet up for people who would like to share their love of slings, carriers, wraps and enable other Mums and Dads on their journey of baby wearing.
Most of the time a sling meet happens to be organised by a person who is running a sling library where you have the chance to try out all sorts of different stretchies, wraps and carriers, to see which one is suited for you and your baby. You then can rent a Sling for a small amount of money per week and test it for yourself. Which is a great way to discover what works best for you both before going off and purchasing a expensive sling which might not be right for you!
So i went to the Hillingdon Sling Meet (which has its own Facebook Page) and meet the lovely Amanda who started up the Group and a great Bunch of other lovely Mums who made me feel very welcome!
The Sling Meet hasn’t got a Library just yet (but it is in the making) but between all of us we do have a fair share of “stash” to try out!
If you want to see if there is a local Sling Library & Meet up near you head over to the Sling Library UK Network Page.
If you stick with me i am hoping to bring you a few more posts dedicated to baby wearing topics very soon!
For Now, Happy Baby Wearing!
