After having a afternoon stint of irregular contraction like pain start of my 39th week the rest of the week was rather quite although Friday I felt really run down and spend most of the day in bed feeling really rough.
Came Saturday my energy returned overnight and I started the day off with baking a Cake well 2 actually because Mum manage to accidentally turn off the oven whilst the first one was baking – nothing unusual there but I have to smile whilst writing this because it feels a bit like history repeating itself, nearly 4yrs ago when having Finn I did exactly the same the day before I had him (plus minus a few little details of course) – then we went to see Mr.C’s Family with my Mum and had a nice afternoon chatting whilst having coffee and cake.
Around 6pm I started to feel funny I couldn’t pinpoint why and didn’t wanted to worry anybody so kept it to myself to start with.
Around 6pm I started to feel funny I couldn’t pinpoint why and didn’t wanted to worry anybody so kept it to myself to start with.
On arrival at home I went to have a long warm bath and went to bed around 10pm. 2 hours later exactly at midnight I woke up thinking I wet my bed (thank god for waterproof sheets I say!!) quickly realising/hoping that it was actually my waters who broke. Calling Mr. C. I to the bedroom who ordered me a shower and stripped the bed. I then could feel my plug go and after getting dressed I decided to call the birthing centre to inform them. After calling around my neighbour came downstairs to babysit a sleeping Finn and my Cousin and her Husband where on standby in case I would have to stay in to come and stay over to look after Finn the next day.
Due to the fact I had no contractions i didn’t feel like something would go ahead that night but my mum insisted on bringing all out bags and the car seat along because she was certain that this would be it and I have my baby soon.
After child are was sorted and bags in the car whilst setting off at 2.15am to make our way to the hospital I started to get light contractions every 4 minutes.
Upon arrival at the birth centre of my local hospital the MW took a sample and decided due to the fact I had Finn in 4hrs that I should stay in to be monitored every hour for the next 4 hours.
I nearly made a dash to another hospital after hearing that both of their birthing pools where unavailable because they renovation them and the plumbing wasn’t finished!! But the MW called down to Labour Ward where it was quiet enough for me to come down later and use their birthing pool! thank god!
After going through 2 pairs of trousers thanks to my “leaking water” I decided to wing it and went Greek style with just a bed sheet knotted around my waist.
Walking up and down the corridor in and out of my birthing room the contractions started to get more intense (but bearable) and shorter intervals.
After the MW checked the Baby’s heartbeat for the 2. Time just after 3.30am I fainted for the first time finding myself lying on the beanbags behind where I was standing at that time.
By 4.30am she finally examined me and it turned out I was “only” 4 cm so not In actual labour yet. After another fainting episode (this time with only Mr. C. and my mum in the room but once again saved by the beanbags the MW decided against me going into the Pool which I was gutted about because I still didn’t think I could pull of giving birth on “dry land”!
So I got wheeled down to Labour ward and after having a drip inserted and Equipment installed to check up on the baby’s heartbeat I requested Gas&Air hoping it will help with the contractions unfortunately it just made me go even more wossy and tired so I went back to breathing through them.
Just before 7am a Doctor came and requested to put a little cable onto my Baby’s head because the heartbeat monitor measurement which was strapped to my belt wasn’t accurate enough for them to make sure the baby is ok so for the doctor to do so she realised my actual water hasn’t broken yet! After yet another flush which felt like a large amount of water my contractions came to a point where I didn’t care anymore about going natural and with minimal medication and I asked for whatever is available, pethidine (check spelling) epidural I wanted the lot! unfortunately or fortunately which ever way you want to see it by that point the doctor told me I am already 8cm so it’s too late for anything I just have to do it like this now.
Shortly after 7.30am somebody pressed the red button and my room filled up with 10 MW’s, Nurses and Doctors, the stirrups came out and I was ordered (feeling pretty out of it at this point) To listen what the doctor was saying.
Even though it was all a bit of a blurr there was mentioning of helping my getting that baby out with a medical device, although they didn’t tell me what they will use.
Within 3 pushes and help of the doctor using a handheld Ventouse, the Baby was out and after what seemed only seconds of skin to skin and 1 little cry they took her away from me to clear her throat.
I did ask one of the Midwifes what sex it is but got no reply back.
My Mum who went over to the doctor who checked her over turned around to me and told me in German: “it looks just like Finn” so my first thought was I was having another boy but after asking her what sex it is then just to double check she beamed: “Es ist ein Mädchen!” (It’s a girl!)
I turned my head to Mr.C. -Who was still holding my hands and hasn’t moved from my side even though I told him he should go and have a look at the baby- and looked at him with a very surprised face, he looked puzzled and only then I realised he didn’t understand what mum has said so I told him: “it’s a girl, we are actually having a baby girl!!”
So after loads of cuddles and a few hours our beautiful blue eyed black haired baby girl had a name!
Let me introduce you to our darling daughter:
Molly-May Mia
born on Sunday
9th February 2014
at 7.55am
weighing 8lbs 7 1/2 oz
measuring 52 cm long.
It took me about 2 days to sink in that we have a girl you might wonder why, well in the C. Family Molly-May is only the 2. Girl born in 27 years the rest is all boys!! I guess that’s why i was 95% sure it will be another boy although my dreams told me (twice!) otherwise.
We had a couple of hard nights to start with with loads of crying and she is just so completely different to how Finn was as a Baby, he was very chilled and never cried and she certainly has a lunge to her and tells us if its not going quick enough she is a sickly Baby and is very demanding regarding feeds but she is already sleeping very well at night!
We couldn’t be any more happier having her joining our little family and making us complete (for now)!
