I finally found some time to get all those posts out whom I wanted to write up so long ago. It’s coming up to 5 years of being married so ‘only’ a slight delay to write down all my thoughts on our Big Fat Bavarian Wedding (Weekend) and everything that came with it. To be legally married in Germany you have to get married in the Registry Office first so the normal tradition is that most people either have the small wedding a year before the big day or on the morning of the church wedding. Us, as usual not doing the normal thing decided to have it two days before the church wedding so we had a day to relax in between.
It was a no brainer with us getting married in Bavaria (my home country) to wear traditional Bavarian costume just like we did when Mr. C. proposed to me back in September 2013 at the beer festival (you can read more about that here)!
I surprised Mr. C. with a new (wedding) Dirndl which just happened to match Molly-May’s and the boys wore a combo off white granddad collar shirts with Lederhosen (leather pants) and black converse whilst us girls opted for white ones instead, I also wore my Grandmas pearl necklace and had a picture of her and my beloved godfather (who both past away within 4 months before our special day) inside some frames attached to my wedding bouquet:
My mum’s two best friends surprised us with a homemade 3 tier wedding cake which not only looked good but tasted amazing too! We enjoyed it at the traditional German afternoon Coffee and Cake time (which is around 3pm) after the ceremony and lunch:
Here are some impressions from the day. I absolutely loved the way my hairdresser braided my hair and used some wild flowers from the meadows (freshly picked by my florist friend in the morning). All the pictures are done by friends and family who attended and there captures some lovely shots! I did kind of regret not getting more family pictures of us 4 after the ceremony but I think I thought that with the big wedding ahead we will get plenty of time for that (how wrong was I!) Here’s a rare glimpse of Mr. C. us signing our legal document at the ceremony and a close up shot of our wedding rings:
Registry weddings are normally a small affair with only the closest family attending but with us both having large families we had about 30 people with us to tie the knot officially. The picture below shows me with my cousin Nicola who was also my Maid of Honour and a teeny Molly-May (she was only 1.5 years old when we got married), how cool do our matching chucks look together:
The English bridal party got hold up with their plane arriving late and traffic on the way to our tiny little village so we left the Mayor of Kipfenberg waiting for a little while and non of them had time to get changed which makes all the pictures even more fun, a mix of traditional bavarian clothes and leisure wear I bloody love my family smiles all around! It was a very relaxed day, the sun was shining and everybody enjoyed themselves which is exactly what we wanted and a brilliant start to our upcoming wedding weekend! Below are my Godmum Mia, my dad and Mr. C.’s oldest brother Mark as well as Mr. C.’s Dad and mine having a giggle and not to forget some baby throwing action, back then she was light enough to throw up in the air:
After the ceremony and a glass of champagne for the celebrations we headed to a nearby village for some dinner at a restaurant before heading back home where we had a sing along session outside my parents house underneath the pavilion with some more guests who started to arrive for the wedding weekend ahead, it was just perfect! Keep tuned for some more wedding blog post coming soon!
